Tag Carasuhat wetlands

The Carasuhat wetlands, located near Mahmudia in the Danube Delta region, form a diverse complex of shallow lakes, reedbeds, and seasonally flooded grasslands. These habitats support breeding and feeding populations of Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus), Pied Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta), Little Bittern (Ixobrychus minutus), Squacco Heron (Ardeola ralloides), Whiskered Tern (Chlidonias hybrida) and Great Reed Warbler (Acrocephalus arundinaceus). During migration, the wetlands also host Ruff (Calidris pugnax), Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus) and other waders. This mosaic of aquatic and semi-aquatic ecosystems makes Carasuhat one of the most ecologically significant birding areas from Danube Delta.
