Tag Mahmudia birding base

Mahmudia serves as an ideal birding base for exploring the Danube Delta and surrounding habitats. Mahmudia is easily accessible by car, without the need for long boat transfers, making it one of the most practical gateways to the Delta. Located on the Sfântu Gheorghe branch, the village offers direct boat access to reedbeds, shallow lakes and winding channels, as well as nearby wetlands such as Carasuhat Area. The proximity of the Bestepe Hills also adds steppe grassland habitats within short driving distance. This combination of aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems allows birders to observe pelicans, herons, pygmy cormorants, spoonbills, raptors, bee-eaters, rollers and migratory passerines from a single, convenient location.
