Tag Palaearctic migration flyway

The Palaearctic migration flyway is one of the major avian movement systems connecting breeding grounds across Europe and northern Asia with wintering areas in Africa and the Middle East. Within this vast network, the Danube Delta represents a critical junction along the Western Palaearctic flyway. Its extensive reedbeds, shallow lakes, sandbanks and alluvial wetlands function as essential stopover and refuelling habitats during spring and autumn migration.

The Danube Delta’s geographic position at the crossroads of Central European, Balkan and Pontic regions makes it one of the most significant migration bottlenecks and concentration areas in southeastern Europe.
