Wildlife
Wildlife in Romania reflects the country’s exceptional ecological diversity, spanning wetlands, forests, mountains and steppe habitats. The Danube Delta alone supports over 300 bird species, including Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus), Eurasian Spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and White-tailed Eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla).
Beyond avifauna, Romania hosts large mammals such as Brown Bear (Ursus arctos), Gray Wolf (Canis lupus), Eurasian Lynx (Lynx lynx), Golden Jackal (Canis aureus) and Eurasian Otter (Lutra lutra). Amphibians like Marsh Frog (Pelophylax ridibundus), reptiles such as European Pond Turtle (Emys orbicularis), diverse fish communities and rich vegetation further contribute to national biodiversity.
From the Carpathian Mountains to the Danube Delta wetlands and Dobrogea steppe, Romania remains one of Europe’s strongestholds for wildlife conservation and nature-based exploration.
